UFC 146 on May 26th, which we already know will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem, is rapidly turning into a heavyweight extravaganza as two major new fights in the division have just been added to the card.

First up is a No.1 contender bout which will see former champions Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez squaring off in a fight that will serve as the Las Vegas show’s co-main event.

Mir is currently on a three fight winning streak, notching up wins over Mirko Cro Cop, Roy Nelson and most recently a ‘Submission Of The Year’ victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira that’s propelled him close to the summit of the heavyweight ranks.

Velasquez has been out through injury since losing his title to Dos Santos in November, the only loss of his 10 fight career, but he’s now ready to return and will be hoping to make a quick return to the title.

Meanwhile, the UFC have announced a third heavyweight encounter for UFC 146 which sees Roy Nelson square off against former Strikeforce star Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva.

Nelson is currently struggling to find form in the division with his last loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 143 being his third in four fights.

‘Big Foot’ is also coming off a loss to Daniel Cormier in the semi-finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight GP, but he did have three wins in a row prior to that including a victory over Fedor Emelianenko.
