The newly launched ‘FX Canada’ channel has acquired the rights to broadcast the next two seasons of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’.

The deal will begin with TUF 15 which begins on Friday, 9th March at 9pm Eastern Time and will be the first to offer up a new format in which the show will culminate each week with two contestants competing live in an elimination bout.

The Ultimate Fighter is already scheduled to air on FX in the U.S so this deal compliments that one perfectly and keeps two of the promotion’s major market in sync with each other going forward. TUF also currently airs on FX UK, though it’s not yet been established if that will continue for the 2012 season.

“The Ultimate Fighter is another example of how we are continuously capitalizing on opportunities to build our bold programming slate and offer Canadians the best in world-class content on FX Canada,” Scott Moore, President of Broadcasting, Rogers Media stated in a press release. “The addition of The Ultimate Fighter series to our stellar FX Canada lineup provides the loyal fans of mixed martial arts a chance to view and participate in the evolution of the series each season.”

Canada is often touted as being “the mecca of mixed martial arts” by UFC president Dana White due to the remarkable popularity of the sport in the region and so this deal was an important piece of the television puzzle for the promotion.

FX Canada launched at the end of October and is currently available in standard and high definition with a two-month free-view for Rogers Digital, EastLink and Cable Cable subscribers.
