In 2012 Fuel TV will become the new home of the UFC’s live preliminary fights, taking over from the promotion’s existing arrangement with Facebook.
However, there appears to be some flexibility in the new set-up as it’s been announced that the FX channel will play host to UFC 142’s six-fight preliminary card on January 14th prior to the main card which will be broadcast on pay-per-view.
UFC 142 goes down in Rio De Janiero, Brazil and features some solid prelim bouts, including a lightweight scrap between Sam Stout and Thiago Tavares, and welterweight action featuring Mike Pytle Vs Paulo Thiago.
FOX’s willingess to devote practically an entire night on a major channel like FX to a UFC undercard once again emphasizes their commitment to fully supporting the UFC during this new seven year deal. It’ll be very interesting to see how the ratings on FX compare to Spike TV’s prelim specials which have regularly drawn in the region of 1-2 million viewers over the past couple of years.
As 2012 continues FX will also be home to the new ‘Ultimate Fighter Live’ series on Friday nights starting in March, plus several live ‘UFC On FX’ events. Meanwhile Fuel TV will begin airing prelimary fights from January 20th.
Here’s the full undercard for the UFC 142 show.
