Though nothing has been confirmed at this stage both Gegard Mousasi and Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal are anticipating fighting one another at the as yet unannounced Strikeforce On CBS event in April.
“I probably will fight in April against King Mo…that’s what I have heard,” Mousasi told mmaprime.tv reporter Aaron Tru at an event this past weekend.
Reacting to the news King Mo was cautiously optimistic at the prospect of fighting the current Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion.
“I feel great,” Lawal told MMAjunkie.com. “I’ll feel better when it’s confirmed, you know what I’m saying? Once it’s confirmed, game over.”
If it is indeed confirmed then this would certainly be a bold move by Strikeforce, pitting two of their most valuable rising stars against one another.
Mousasi is of course already an established fighter with a hugely impressive record of 28-2-1, but at just 24 years of age his best years may still lie ahead of him. Even UFC president Dana White is known to be a keen admirer of the Iranian born fighter, expressing in no uncertain terms his desire to sign him if the possibility arose.
King Mo doesn’t have Mousasi’s experience, but with a record of just 6-0, the highly regarded wrestler has already made a name for himself thanks to his convincing performances, theatrical entrances, and outspoken personality.
Considering that Strikeforce have recently been treating their potential stars like Bobby Lashley and Herschel Walker with kid gloves it would be somewhat of a surprise if this match-up does indeed take place, but it would certainly be a major addition to the April CBS card, which is expected to be headlined by Fedor Emelianenko Vs Fabricio Werdum.
