Brace yourselves people, the world’s most famous female MMA star Gina Carano is set to return to Strikeforce in 2011.

The return of the hugely popular fighter was announced during tonight’s Strikeforce: Fedor Vs Silva event on Showtime.

Many believed the 28 year-old had abandoned the sport in favor of an acting career, with her big screen debut in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’ set for release in April, but recent pictures of her back in training at X-Treme Couture had given the first indication that Carano was plotting a comeback.

Speaking at the event Carano revealed what motivated her to come back to the cage.

“I think I just need to settle the score with myself really. I just need to get back in there for me,” Carano said.

At present there’s no indication of exactly when the fight will take place or who her opponent will be, though Carano said she hoped it would be soon.  After the best part of two years out of the cage since her loss to Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos, fans will be thrilled to hear that she is not finished with the sport that made her famous.

After the event Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker stated that Carano is being targeted for a June fight in Strikeforce.
