Female MMA superstar Gina Carano is close to having an official opponent for her return to the Strikeforce cage on June 18th.

According to MMAWeekly talks are at an advanced stage for Carano to fight Sarah ‘The Monster’ D’Alelio, who’s a relatively new fighter on the scene, producing a 4-1 record over the past 12 months since becoming a pro-fighter.

At first glance it’s a relatively gentle re-introduction to top flight MMA for Carano which makes sense given that by the time fight comes around it’ll have been almost two years since she last competed. It’s not a fight she can afford to take lightly though, with D’Alelio bringing a significant submission threat and having finished all four of her victories inside the first round.

Carano appears to be taking her return seriously though, and recently switched to the highly regarded Jackson’s MMA camp in preparation for this bout, with one of the benefits of that being the chance to spar with several other talented female MMA fighters.

If the bout is finalized then it will form part of the main card at the Dallas event which will also play host to the second half of the Strikeforce Heavyweight GP’s quarter-finals featuring Alistair Overeem Vs Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett Vs Brett Rogers.
