It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally got our hands on the first official trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’ movie starring MMA superstar Gina Carano.
In the clip below Carano, who is described by the narrator as, “our nation’s most valuable weapon” is seen letting her fists and feet do the majority of the talking for her as she shows off her considerable martial arts talents by whooping a plethora of random bad guy’s asses.
She is of course aided by an all-star cast which includes the likes of Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor and Antonio Banderas who also make brief appearances in the 90 second trailer.
The movie has had a troubled existence so far with it’s cinema release date being delayed numerous times amid reshoots and distributor changes. Currently it’s set for release early in 2012.
First impressions are that the fight scenes look pretty slick and Carano certainly looks the part. That much I expected though, the real question is whether she can actually act. Personally that’s always been the big question mark here for me as I’ve never been able to picture how Carano, who almost appears as if she’s painfully shy in her interviews, would come across in a film like this.
On this evidence the jury is still out. There’s very little in the way of dialogue from her, and though I could be wrong it sounds to me as if some of those telephone messages are dubbed by a different actress, it just doesn’t sound like her at all.
Meanwhile when Carano will return to fighting still remains shrouded in mystery. She was originally scheduled to fight at a Strikeforce show in June, but had to cancel due to an undisclosed medical issue.
