Gina Carano fever is about to strike again as news emerges that her first starring role in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’ is set for release in theatres on April 22nd.

Carano, one of the most popular fighters in mixed martial arts, plays the role of a covert operative who seeks revenge after being double crossed during a mission.

Sher stars alongside a host of famous Hollywood actors like Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton and Michael Douglas in the movie which is estimated to have had a budget of $25 million.

According to Michael Angarano who acted alongside Carano in the film Soderbergh had stated that he wanted the film to be like blockbuster spy thriller ‘The Bourne Identity’, but with a female lead.

Of Carano’s acting debut Angarao stated in a recent RedState Q&A, “She had great instincts, and it was really interesting to fighter instincts.”

Meanwhile the word from Soderbergh is that some of her male co-stars were, “scared” by the prospect of being beaten up by the female MMA superstar on screen.  In an interview with The Scotsman in October Michael Douglas had stated, My God, the fight scenes are … she beats the sh*t out of these guys. It’s like the real thing.”

Despite her director and co-stars talking about the film, Carano herself has yet to speak about her experience on set, or more importantly whether she will return to MMA in 2011.

It’s only a matter of time before she has to hit the PR trail for the movie’s premiere however, and when that time comes she’s bound to be bombarded with questions about where her future lies.
