Fresh off a spectacular first round KO of Matt Lindland earlier this month, Robbie Lawler will now get a chance to fight for the middleweight title early in 2011.

A source close to the negotiation’s tells MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani that Lawler will face current champion Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at a Strikeforce event on January 29th.

Lawler actually has two first round KO’s to his name in 2010 at 185lbs, the other being Melvin Manhoef back in January.  In-between times he also lost by unanimous decision to Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral at a catchweight of 195lbs.

Meanwhile Jacare is currently on a three fight winning streak since joining Strikeforce, defeating Matt Lindland, Joey Villasenor and Tim Kennedy along the way.  The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert will be aiming to make the first successful defense of his title against the hard hitting Lawler at Strikeforce’s first major event of 2011.
