The Bud Light sponsored UFC Fight Night 25: Battle On The Bayou show on September 17th now has a main event.
The UFC announced today that a welterweight tilt between former No.1 contender Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger will headline the card which will air live on Spike TV.
Shields will be making his first appearance since losing a decision to current title holder Georges St.Pierre back in April and will be looking to recapture the form that saw him go on a fifteen fight winning streak prior to that bout.
This will be Ellenberger’s first spot on a main event, earned thanks to a four fight winning streak at 170lbs, and coming off the back of a first round KO win over Sean Pierson at UFC 129.
Ellenberger has been calling for this fight for some time, and his strong wrestling base and heavy hands could pose the former Strikeforce midleweight champion some serious problems, though Shields is also a good wrestler and his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills will be a constant threat.
Meanwhile, the fact that the UFC have matched up Shields with Ellenberger suggests that they are now more likely than ever to hold a rematch between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch later in the year.
