An interesting piece of news today is that boxer James Toney has enlisted the help of Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal ahead of his fight with Randy Couture.

According to FightHype the two met up at the weekend and will continue to do so as the fight in August at UFC 118.

It’s a smart move by the boxer as Couture has made no bones of the fact that he wants to use his wrestling to take the fight to the ground, and ‘King Mo’ is a decorated wrestler who prior to taking up MMA had been a ‘Big 12’ champion and Division 1 All-American while at Oklahoma State.

You can see the respect that other fighters have for Lawal’s skills in the clip below which shows him demonstrating wrestling techniques to Lyoto Machida while Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo listen intently in the background.

Of course it will be an almost impossible task even for Lawal to prepare Toney for a wrestler of Couture’s caliber and experience, but it at least shows that the boxer is taking the task ahead of him seriously and making smart choices about how to go about his training.
