Former WEC champion Jamie Varner declared his retirement from the sport just four weeks ago after a disappointing 1-4-1 run in the sport, but last night he reversed that decision by competing at XFO 14 which aired live on HDNet.

It proved to be a good decision as Varner, still just 27 years-old, produced a 70 second KO win over Nate Jolly who had a 10-3 record heading into the bout.

Varner admitted post-fight that he had his coaches to thank for convincing him that his fighting career wasn’t a lost cause.

“If it wasn’t for the guys standing behind me. those are the people who really believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself,” Varner told the audience.

Varner’s fighting career has been hampered by injury woes, but he’s still young and certainly has enough skill and experience to bounce back and become a presence in the lightweight division so it’s good to see that he’s going to continue on in the sport.
