Jason High Cut From UFC For Shoving Referee At UFN 42

A moment of madness inside the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 42 last weekend has cost Jason high his place in the promotion.

Immediately following his second round TKO loss to Rafael dos Anjos on Saturday night, High got to his feet and shoved referee Kevin Mulhall in frustration at what he believed to be a premature stoppage.

High later apologized on Twitter for his actions inside the Octagon.

“Incredibly sorry & embarrassed for the ref incident,” High wrote. “Will never happen again.”

It’s believed that High will escape an official punishment from the commission in New Mexico for the incident. However, UFC President Dana White confirmed yesterday that High had been released from the promotion.

“He’s cut,” White told UFC.com. “I’m going to cut him. I look at that the way (Paul) Daley put his hands on his opponent after a fight was over. You don’t ever, ever f—ing touch a referee, ever. You’re done here. He’s been apologizing on Twitter, but he’s done.”

High had been in his second spell in the UFC and after Saturday night’s fight was 2-2 during that stint, leaving him with an overall 18-5 career record.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
