It was only yesterday that the word came through that Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller woud be making the switch from Strikeforce to the UFC in a new multi-fight deal, and now we know his first opponent.

Earlier today it was announced that Miller has signed on to fight Aaron Simpson at UFC 132 on July 2nd in Las Vegas.

Primarily a wrestler, Simpson made an immediate impression in the UFC with three straight victories, but then lost momentum with two consecutive defeats. He managed to bounce back with a decision win over Mario Miranda in March however, and is now rewarded with a high-profile bout.

Meanwhile Mayhem has had a relatively quiet time over the last 12 months, fighting only once in DREAM against Kazushi Sakuraba, a bout which he won by first round submission.

Today’s announcement may leave some fans disappointed as it appears to rule out the possiblilty of Mayhem taking a coaching role on The Ultimate fighter Season 14 opposite Michael Bisping, which the fighter himself had campaigned for.
