Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is rapidly becoming a legitimate star in the UFC thanks to her confident, outspoken yet endearing personality outside of the Octagon and slick, pin-point accurate striking inside of it, but unfortunately we may have to wait a while before we next see her compete.
During her dominant win over Jessica Penne by third round TKO this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 69 in Berlin, Germany it turns out that the Polish champion badly broke her thumb.
It’s perhaps not surprising that she suffered some damage to her hand given that she threw 126 strikes during the title encounter according to the official FightMetric stats, with many of them being lightning-fast combinations of left and rights as she beat up her opponent against the cage.
So, it’s likely that she’ll now be out for some time due to the injury, and it seems like that will be ok with the 27 year-old who had already informed reporters at the post-fight press conference on Saturday that she had been planning to take some time off after fighting three times in seven months.
She already had November or December in mind for her next title defense, and her injury shouldn’t affect that timeline.
