John Dodson is heading back to the UFC’s bantamweight division after his latest unsuccessful fylweight title challenge.

Dodson came up second best against Demetrious Johnson by unanimous decision for the second time in the past three years at UFC 191 last month, and with their being little evidence that ‘Mighty Mouse’ is going to be dislodged from his throne any time soon that appears to have forced Dodson’s hand to look for a new route to a title shot.

While flyweight appears to be where Dodson is best suited and has spent most of his career, it should be noted that he won The Ultimate Fighter 14 reality show as a bantamweight.

What makes that more impressive however is that in the final he TKO’d a certain TJ Dillashaw – the man who now rules the roost at 135lbs, so that instantly makes ‘The Magician’ a significant player in his new weight class.

So, it’s an interesting switch for the 31 year-old Dodson, though on the flip-side it’s not great news for the already thin flyweight division to lose one of it’s best assets.

According to the UFC Tonight show Dodson is eager to get into the Octagon at 135lbs sooner rather than later and is targeting either December of January for his return to action.
