Jon Fitch has announced via his twitter account that his fight with Ricardo Almeida which was scheduled for UFC 106 has now been cancelled.   He says that Almeida has suffered a knee injury and therefore will be unable to compete at the event.

The news doesn’t appear to have dampened Fitch’s spirits however.  Quite the opposite in fact, as he reveals that he will now, get a bigger better fight instead. Cant say who.”

It shouldn’t be long before we find out who the mystery fighter will be, and in the mean time the rumor mill has been churning out names such as Thiago AlvesMatt Hughes and Josh Koscheck.

Update:

It has now been confirmed that Thiago Alves will be his opponent.   The two have fought before at UFN 5 where Fitch defeated Alves by TKO.  It remains the only time that Alves has been beaten in regulation time, and he will no doubt relish the opportunity to avenge the defeat.
