Just five days before their UFC 135 light-heavyweight title fight, current champion Jon Jones and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson will appear together on ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ talk show.
It’s a unique situation for two main event fighters to appear on a show like this prior to a fight and it seems like an excellent way to promote the fight.
It’ll also be intriguing to see how the two men interact with each other. A press conference in Colorado a few months ago to promote the fight proved to be gold with Rampage in particular appearing in good spirits, cracking jokes and poking fun at his opponent, while Jones responded in kind but did seem to take a few of the jabs being aimed at him a little personally.
Since then there’s been tension between the two after Rampage claimed that Jones had placed a spy in his training camp, something the champion categorically denies.
Both men should be comfortable in front of the camera with Rampage being well accustomed to high profile talk shows appearances both as a UFC fighter and during the press campaign for his role in ‘The A-Team’, while Jones has also had a taste of the big-time after an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Really it’s a medium that’s particularly well suited to Rampage’s personality and that may lead to him getting the upper hand in the war of words, but it’s what the two men do in the Octagon on the Saturday night that’s most important.
