Apparently when UFC light-heavyweight title contender Jon Jones isn’t fighting in the Octagon, he’s out on the streets fighting crime.

Or at least that’s how it appears after a remarkable story emerged today that Jones and his coaches Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn caught a thief just hours before his fight with Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 128 this evening.

Jones talked about the incident later on his twitter account.

“So while we were at the park today a crack head smashed this old ladys car window and took off running with her gps just as we were pulling up. Right away….Coach Wink goes after this guy. Without hesitation, Coach Jackson went after him…I was shocked and stood there for a second then I threw my phone down and went with my coaches. Before you know it, we’re sprinting up a steep hill chasing after him. I turned the jets on….we caught the guy. We got the lady’s gps back.”

Greg Jackson also gave his take on how it all went down.

“We caught up to him, Jon Jones got ahead of me – just that much faster – and footswept him.  The guy went down, got back up and I double-legged him, put him on the ground, armbarred him  Jon Jones came up behind him, put a leg lock on him, Mike Winklejohn checked his hands for weapons and pinned him down until the police came.”

Luckily Jones wasn’t injured in the incident, and he certainly got a unique pre-fight workout in.  Hopefully the distraction won’t effect his performance later tonight.
