Many had predicted that rising star Jon Jones would be too much for an ageing Vladimir Matyushenko in the main event of UFC On Versus 2 and that quickly proved to be the case.
In the end Jones took just 1.52mins to dispense with the Russian veteran. The writing looked on the wall early when Jones was able to take down the decorated wrestler at the first attempt.
Shrugging off a submission attempt Jones then demonstrated his developing ground game by putting Matyushenko in a mounted crucifix where he then unleashed rapid-fire elbows that are quickly becoming his most feared weapon on the mat.
With Matyushenko powerless to defend himself Herb Dean quickly called an end to the beating and handed Jones his second first round victory in a row.
With this victory Jones, now 11-1 in his brief career, showed that not only is he ready to face the top fighters in the light-heavyweight division, but that at the age of 23 he’s going to be a major threat to each and every one of them.
