Following yet another impressive performance tonight against a respected former UFC champion in Quinton ‘Rampage Jackson, Jon Jones immediately found himself being lined up with another one – Rashad Evans.
The real intrigue behind this particular match-up is that the two men used to be training partners, and at a time when Jones looks unbeatable, the fact that Evans claims that he knows Jones weaknesses and has seen him break in the gym has lead some to believe that he is the man to defeat the young star.
Jones was less than happy when Evans stepped into the Octagon tonight following his victory to confirm that he would be his next opponent, and initially at the post-fight press conference later in the evening he refused to answer questions about him.
However as the presser was coming to a close Jones suddenly and without prompting suddenly offered some fresh insight into what really has went on in training between the two.
“Rashad doesn’t have my number. He’s not even close to having my number. When we sparred in practice I know what I could have done. He’s talking about one day in practice where he held me down. That’s it. He keeps reliving that one day.”
Interesting stuff, though it’s still hard to know who to believe and there’s been conflicting reports coming out of Jackson’s MMA about who really got the better of their practice sessions.
So the only way to know for sure is to have them fight, and hopefully the UFC will make that happen sooner rather than later.
