Fast rising featherweight rising talent Chad Mendes will have to wait to get his title shot against current champion Jose Aldo after a shuffling of the UFC 133 fight card.
Mendes earned his No.1 contender spot after winning all 10 of his pro-fights back-to-back, including a dominant win over Japanese star Michihiro Omigawa in his UFC debut back at UFC 126 in February.
Unfortunately injuries sustained during his first UFC 145lb title defence against Mark Hominick in April means that Aldo wont’ be ready in time to fight Mendes at UFC 133 in August, so the promotion have now made alternative arrangements.
Aldo will now be out until September / October time, while Mendes will now faces another former WEC regular Roni Yahya at the UFC 133 show in Philadelphia.
For Yahya ths is a big opportunity considering that he’s lost two of his last three fights, but a move back up to 145lbs seems to have done him some good, resulting in a win over former champion Mike Brown in the UFC back in January.
