Josh Barnett Will Fight On DREAM’s NYE Event, But Don’t Get Too Excited

Heavyweight star Josh Barnett has rose back to prominence this year after comfortably defeating both Brett Rogers and Sergei Kharitonov to reach the final of Strikeforce’s heavyweight GP, and it appears he’ll have one more appearance before the end of the year as he’s now been booked for DREAM’s New Year’s Eve event in Japan.

Don’t get too excited though, Barnett is only going to be taking part in a pro-wrestling bout against Hideki Suzuki. It seems to be part of a theme at this year’s event as grizzled veteran Kazushi Sakuraba will also be involved in some tag-team style pro-wrestling shenanigans as well.

Meanwhile there have been rumors that Mirko Cro Cop could return to Japan for the first time since Dynamite!! 2008 to take on K-1 legend Jerome Le Banner – again in a wrestling match-up.

Personally the pro-wrestling stuff doesn’t float my boat, but rest assured there will be plenty of MMA action in the line-up too along with some kickboxing bouts.

The latest ‘real fight’ added to the card is Megumi ‘Mega Megu’ Fujii who lost to Zoila Frausta in Bellator’s 115lb tournament final earlier this year but has since rebounded with two wins to go 24-1 overall. She’ll now take on Karla Benitez at the DREAM show.
