Josh Koscheck had hoped to have had surgery this week on the broken orbital bone he suffered at the hands of Georges St.Pierre in his failed title bid at UFC 124 on Saturday night, but it turns out he’ll have to wait a while longer.
Koscheck was driven to Boston from Montreal on Sunday and had been expected to go under the knife on Monday or Tuesday, but after examining the injury doctors revealed they would be unable to operate until the swelling had reduced significantly.
That leaves the TUF 12 coach in limbo in Boston until next week. The 33 year-old had been looking forward to going home to spend time with his friends and family in California, but now he’ll no doubt be keeping his fingers crossed that he makes it back to The Golden State in time for Christmas.
Koscheck appeared to have his right orbital broken in the opening round of his fight with GSP, but he showed heart to continue fighting for a further four rounds before losing out to the champion by a 50-45 unanimous decision.
Given his current circumstances he may now be regretting his decision to fight on, but he can take some consolation in the fact that fans voted for the title bout to be awarded ‘Fight Of The Night’ status, which entitled the fighter to an additional $100,000 bonus.
