In an historic UFC main event broadcast for the first time ever live to millions live on FOX Junior Dos Santos made short work of Cain Velasquez to become the new UFC heavyweight champion of the world.

The fight was almost a blink and you’ll miss it affair. The two fighters exchanged early with Dos Santos looking for single blows while Velasquez mixed up punches with kicks.

Then came an overhand right from Dos Santos that hammered Velasquez temple and buckled his legs.

Dos Santos swarmed immediately with ground and pound strikes. At first Velasquez struggled to defend, but then his body went limp and referee John McCarthy rushed in to call an end to the contest with just 64 seconds on the clock.

Given that this was the UFC’s big debut on FOX it’s unfortunate that it ended so soon, but credit to Dos Santos for being the first man to finish Velasquez and becoming the new heavyweight champ on the biggest night in the history of the sport.
