Junior Dos Santos put in another excellent performance last night against a challenging opponent in Roy Nelson to record his sixth straight win in the UFC.

Afterwards Dos Santos reflected on the fight and gave props to Nelson for hanging in for three full rounds with him despite taking heavy punishment from the new No.1 contender.

“It was a nice fight,” he told MMAfighting’s Ariel Helwani.  “He surprised me, he’s a very tough fighter.  I’m very happy with this victory.”

Dos Santos reveals that he had been warned about Nelson’s durability beforehand, but seeing was believing.

“Somebody told me, ‘he’s a tough, tough guy’, but my thoughts about him now – he’s tougher than I thought before!” he says.  “It was unbelievable.  He’s got a great defense too.”

As well as once again showing off his excellent boxing skills Dos Santos also did a good job of preventing Nelson from employing his dangerous ground game against him during the fight.

“I have pretty good wrestling, I train a lot of wrestling and all the other arts, and my gameplan was, ‘don’t let him put me down.’  My gameplan was good, I can do what I trained for this fight.”

Despite some rumors post-fight Dos Santos was also able to confirm that he had not in fact injured his hand during the fight.

Now a fight with the winner of October’s Brock Lesnar Vs Cain Velasquez fight awaits Dos Santos, and as you would expect from a fighter who’s been so dominant in the octagon to date, he’s confident he will come out on top.

“Now I’m going to start thinking about this fight, but I’m very happy for this and my dream is to be the UFC champion, and I will.”

It’s been a whirlwind couple of years for Dos Santos since joining the UFC and he says he’s very happy with how it’s all panned out so far.

“Yeah yeah, I’m very impressed with my fans and all what’s happened now.  Everything is very new in my life.  It makes me very happy, but I think I deserve it because I train hard every day and I will continue in my career now and train harder than now.”

As for who he will face for the title, Dos Santos is just happy to sit back and see how it all pans out.

“It doesn’t matter who is going to be my opponent.  The fight, Brock against Cain is going to be a good fight and I think I don’t know who’s going to win.”
