One of the most exciting bouts on the action packed UFC 117: Silva Vs Sonnen card next month sees a heavyweight bout between Junior Dos Santos and Roy Nelson which will establish who gets the next title shot after Cain Velasquez.
Ahead of the fight Dos Santos is in confident mood as you would expect from a man who’s so far notched up five consecutive wins in the UFC including victories over the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Mirko Cro Cop and Gabriel Gonzaga.
“If he tries to attack, I will knock him out,” he says of Nelson in a pre-fight interview for UFC.com.
Nelson is not an easy opponent for the Brazilian though. He’s more experienced, holding a record of 15-4, has a strong jiu-jitsu background and holds back-to-back KO victories in his octagon so far.
As far as Dos Santos is concerned however he’s merely another obstacle to overcome on his way to the title.
“I want to be champion soon and I want to fight with the best guys in the UFC soon. He’s in my way, and I will take him out of my way.”
And despite the fact that he’s not been tested on the ground yet in his UFC career he’s not afraid to go their if that’s where the fight takes him.
“He’s good in jiu-jitsu, but I can surprise him with submissions too,” says the 24 year-old who is part of the renowned Black House team where he trains under the likes of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. “I’m going to show you guys what I can do on the floor.”
