The latest addition to an increasingly impressive looking UFC 127 event on Super Bowl Weekend features Kenny Florian against Evan Dunham.
Florian and Dunham are amongst the lightweight division’s top contenders but have both suffered losses recently.
In Florian’s case he missed out on a third shot at Frankie Edgar’s lightweight title after losing to decision king Gray Maynard in Boston at UFC 118. Meanwhile Dunham has a right to feel somewhat aggrieved to have come out on the wrong end of a judges decision against Sean Sherk at UFC 119.
After the fight Dunham stated that he wanted another tough opponent next despite the loss, and it seems that the UFC have been happy to oblige.
Speaking on MMA Live yesterday Florian said he was, “very excited” about the fight with Dunham and described him as a, “phenomenal opponent.”
The UFC appear to be going all in on their Super Bowl card with Anderson Silva Vs Vitor Belfort, Rich Franklin Vs Forrest Griffin and Jon Jones Vs Ryan Bader also reported to have been earmarked for the February 5th event.
Those fights have yet to be officially confirmed though, and I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of them slots into another card in early 2011.
Update: Minutes after publishing this story it was announced that Silva Vs Belfort will now headline UFC 126 instead.
