The Strikeforce: Overeem Vs Werdum fight card now contains another quality match-up with lightweight contenders KJ Noons and Jorge Masvidal signed up to fight at the June 18th event.
Both Noons and Masvidal are talented boxers, so this has the makings of an intriguing stand-up battle, and it’s likely that the winner will be the next challenger for Gilbert Melendez title.
The big question mark now is how Strikeforce is going to shoehorn all the fights they have on this card into one broadcast.
Naturally the two heavyweight grand-prix quarter-final bouts featuring Alistair Overeem Vs Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett Vs Brett Rogers will take center-stage, while Gina Carano’s return against Sarah D’Alelio is also guaranteed a spot on the main card.
Noons Vs Masvidal should also be featured, leaving one free slot left on the main card to be selected from Daniel Cormier Vs Jeff Monson, Valentijn Overeem Vs Chad Griggs and JZ Cavalcante Vs Justin Wilcox.
For my money Cormier Vs Monson would be the one to go for, but Cavalcante Vs Wilcox would also work.
It’ll be interesting to see how this is handled – to me it certainly looks possible for Strikeforce to take a leaf out of the UFC’s book and make the two bouts that don’t make the main card available to watch on Facebook.
However it ends up working out there’s no question that fans will be getting their money’s worth from this event.
