Antonio Rogerio Nogueira gave Tito Ortiz a taste of his own medicine with some nasty ground and pound tonight during his first round TKO victory at UFC 140.
Ortiz started well, coming forward aggressively and getting the better of Nogueira in the early toe-to-toe exchanges as the two threw caution to the wind and swung for the fences.
It wasn’t long before Lil Nog turned the tables though, landing a left hook that hurt Ortiz, though he stayed standing.
Not for long though as Nogueira blasted him with a big knee to the body that then dropped the former champion.
From their Lil Nog went to town on Ortiz with some brutal and relentless ground and pound. The Brazilian was focusing on shots to the body in particular, landing some nasty elbows and punches there, and it eventually paid dividends with Ortiz visibly wincing in pain.
That was the queue for the referee to take a close look at what was happening and with Ortiz heading not effectively defending himself the fight was brought to an end, leaving Ortiz clutching his ribs in pain.
This was an excellent win for Nogueira, and a much needed one after a few losses in a row.
As for Ortiz, another loss on his record brings into question his future in the UFC once again, but post-fight he indicated he’ll take time to reflect before making any decision.
