For some time it has been anticipated that the light-heavyweight match-up between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Tito Ortiz would be the co-main event of UFC 128: Shogun Vs Evans, but that is no longer the case.
Tito Ortiz first indicated that a switch was taking place on his twitter account, noting that his fight was not taking place at the New Jersey bound UFC 128 show, but would still be happening in March.
Now MMAJunkie has confirmed that the fight will instead move to headline the UFC Fight Night 24 card on March 26th.
Though Ortiz no longer holds the same cache he once did after a string of losses, this bout still looks like being one of the biggest main event’s in terms of star power that has been linked to a Fight Night card in quite some time.
You’d perhaps have to look as far back as UFN 14 in July of 2008 for a similar example when middleweight champion Anderson Silva stepped up to 205lbs for the first time to face James Irvin who was 3-1 in the UFC at the time.
Many see Ortiz next fight as his last stand in the UFC after a dismal 0-4-1 record in the octagon in recent years.
Meanwhile Lil Nog is looking to get back into the running at 205lbs after losing to Ryan Bader last time out, taking his UFC record to 2-1 since joining in November of 2009.
The event will cap off a busy month for the promotion with UFC On Versus 3 set for March 3rd, UFC 128 on the 19th and then UFN 24 on the 26th.
