A pivotal middleweight match-up between Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza has been announced as the main event of the upcoming UFC Fight Night 101 event in Melbourne, Australia on November 26th.
Rockhold had indicated last week that he’d been offered a fight, but had been critical regarding the financial aspect of it, stating that, “the money is bullsh*t.”
That comment came after he revealed that he was considering pursuing lucrative offers to do modelling work, but it seems that’s things have been smoothed over now and Rockhold’s focus is back on fighting.
Now Rockhold will hope to banish the painful memory of losing the UFC Middleweight title by first round KO to late replacement Michael Bisping in a major upset at UFC 199 earlier this year, which snapped a five-fight winning streak.
In ‘Jacare’ he faces another elite level middleweight who is currently ranked No.3 in the division and is champing at the bit to get a title shot at 185lbs.
Souza strengthened his case for a shot at the strap when he took out Vitor Belfort by TKO in the first round at UFC 198 back in May, but a split decision loss to Yoel Romero prior to that – his only UFC loss in seven fights to date – has left him just out of reach of that goal so far.
