In their last encounter Lyoto Machida and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua left the final decision to the judges, resulting in a controversial decision, but this time round the light-heavyweight champion wants to take matters into his own hands.
“I won’t leave this fight in the judges hands. I will finish this fight.”
That’s confident talk from the fighter, and to be fair with knockouts over Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva in his recent resume, he has shown he has the power to win decisively.
He’s not always done so though. In fact he has nine decision victories in his 16 fight career. Despite that Machida is confident that he will successfully defend his title for the second time on Saturday night.
“When the octagon door closes, everyone needs to watch this fight. I will prove that I am the true champion. I’m also going to prove that the Machida era is just beginning, and the victory is in my hand.”
