The highly anticipated rematch between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Shogun Rua is set to take place in Montreal, Canada on May 1st next year.

Dan Wetzel broke the news on his twitter account after receiving word of the bout from Dana White.

In their first fight at UFC 103 Machida retained the light heavyweight belt after the judges awarded him a unanimous decision victory at the end of five closely fought rounds.  The result caused uproar however with the majority of people watching believing that Shogun had done enough to win.

A rematch was verbally agreed upon by both fighters before they had even had a chance to leave their locker-rooms after the fight.  Any hopes of a quick turnaround for their second bout were dashed the following week when Machida revealed that he had damaged his hand in the fight and required surgery.

With a date now having been set both fighters have plenty of time to hone their skills and refine their strategies for a fight that’s sure to generate far more interest than their first encounter and could be a pivitol moment in both mens careers.
