Only a few days out from the UFC’s first event in Australia, the UFC 110 card has been dealt a double injury blow.
Firstly, Ben Rothwell is out of his main card match-up with Mirko Cro Cop due to an illness. Cro Cop will now face the 10-5 Australian veteran Anthony ‘The Hippo’ Perosh, who has stepped up at exceptionally short notice.
It’s disappointing news as the Rothwell – Cro Cop fight was an intriguing one with both fighters believed to potentially be fighting for their futures in the UFC. Now it would appear that Cro Cop has a much easier task on his hands, though not one that will tell us whether he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
Perosh has competed in the UFC in the past, but failed to make his mark, losing to both Jeff Monson and Christian Wellisch back in 2006.
Meanwhile the all Australian clash between Elvis Sinosic Vs Chris Haseman has been pulled from the card after Sinosic injured his shoulder.
Sadly the shock news, which was first reported on the UFC’s website, suggests that the UFC’s injury curse which hindered many of it’s events in the latter half of 2009 is still alive and well.
