Major MMA Events In March 2014

Time is flying by and the MMA events are coming thick and fast, so make sure you don’t miss any of the big fights in March with our guide to the must-see shows this month.

Friday, March 7th: Bellator 111

Where: Oklahoma, United States

This very evening, Bellator 111 takes place over on Spike TV with a bantamweight title fight between current champion Eduardo Dantas and Anthony Leone headlining the proceedings.

Also look out for former UFC heavyweight Lavar Johnson attempting to arrest his current three-fight losing streak and get his first win in the Bellator cage against Ryan Martinez and veteran ‘Mighty Mo’ going up against Peter Graham.

Saturday, March 8th: UFC Fight Night 37: Gustafsson Vs Manuwa

Where: London, England

Tomorrow evening the first in the UFC EMEA series takes place in London with former light-heavyweight No.1 contender Alexander Gustafsson hoping to land another shot at the title with a win over the UK’s Jimi Manuwa.

Melvin Guillard Vs Michael Johnson lands the co-main event slot on this one, while amongst the other attractions there’s also Brad Pickett’s debut in the flyweight division against newcomer Neil Seery.

Friday, March 14th: One FC 14: War Of Nations

Where: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Mid-way through the month ONE FC returns with it’s fourteenth show which will feature a welterweight title fight between Brock Larson and Nobutatsu Suzuki in the main event.

Former UFC fighter Kamal Shalarus is found elsewhere on the main card looking to go 2-0 in the promotion against Ariel Sexton.

Friday, March 14th: Bellator 112

Where: Indiana, United States

The same night Bellator are also in action with a major featherweight title fight between current champion Daniel Straus and former kingpin Pat Curran locking horns for a third time at the top of the bill.

A new welterweight tournament also kicks off on the card including the likes of ‘Fight Master’ winner Joe Riggs and the inimitable ‘War Machine’.

Saturday, March 15th: UFC 171: Hendricks Vs Lawler

Where: Texas, United States

The biggest event of the month takes place a day later with a new welterweight champion set to be crowned when Johny Hendricks meets Robbie Lawler in the Octagon.

There’s further 170lb action in the co-main event as Carlos Condit attempts to secure another title shot when he faces up against former Strikeforce fighter Tyron Woodley, while Jake Shields and Hector Lombard will also be looking to establish themselves favorably in the post-GSP era.

Friday, March 21st: Bellator 113

Where: Kansas, United States

A light-heavyweight title unification bout between current champ Attila Vegh and recent tournament winner Emanuel Newton fronts Bellator 113 on March 21st.

Also look out for Terry Etim making his first tournament appearance in the lightweight quarter-finals alongside the likes of Patricky Freire and Marcin Held.

Sunday, March 23rd: UFC Fight Night 38: Shogun Vs Henderson II

Where: Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil

More UFC action, this time on a Sunday night in Brazil takes place later this month will a rematch of 2012’s ‘Fight Of The Year’ between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Dan Henderson headlining.

Scattered throughout the fight card are a number of other notable fighters like CB Dollaway who faces Cezare ‘Mutante’ Ferreira in the co-main, Scott Jorgensen and Diego Brandao.

Friday, March 28th: Bellator 114

Where: Utah, United States

Bellator’s final event of the month welcomes middleweight champion Alexander Schlemenko back to the cage to defend his title against Brennan Ward.

There’s also a new middleweight tourney getting underway with Brett Cooper taking on former UFC ‘Ultimate Fighter’ Kendall Grove.

Saturday, March 29th: World Series Of Fighting 9: Carl Vs Palhares

Where: Las Vegas, United States

Wrapping up the month is World Series Of Fighting’s next event which will see controversial former UFC middleweight Rousimar Palhares making his debut in a title fight with current champion Steve Carl.

Also look out for another recently released UFC fighter Yushin Okami making his first outing in the WSOF cage against Svetlozar Savov.
