Major MMA Events In September 2016

September is another extremely busy month in the MMA world, with weekly UFC events, with the likes of Bellator, Rizin FF and Invicta FC also on-board too.

Saturday, September 3rd: UFC Fight Night 93 – Arlovski Vs Barnett

Where: Hamburg, Germany

The months major action begins tonight in Germany as grizzled heavyweight veterans Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett go to war in the main event of UFC Fight Night 93, which airs on the UFC Fight Pass subscription service.

Also on-board for this one is the return of former light-heavyweight title contender Alexander Gustafsson against Jan Blachowicz, while Ryan Bader fights Ilir LatifiSaturday, September 10th: UFC 203 – Miocic Vs Overeem

Where: Cleveland, USA

UFC 203 finds heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic making the first defense of his title in his home city of Cleveland against Alistair Overeem.

The co-main event features more major heavyweight action as former champ Fabricio Werdum looks to work his way back to the title against Ben Rothwell, while former WWE superstar Will Brooks, aka ‘CM Punk‘ makes his MMA debut against Mickey Gall.

Friday, September 16th: Bellator 161 – Kongo Vs Johnson

Where: Texas, USA

The Bellator 161 event on September 16th will be headlined by former UFC heavyweight Cheick Kongo, and both he and his opponent Tony Johnson carry back-to-back victories heading into this encounter.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event, former champion Joe Warren will look to get back to winning ways against Sirwan Kakai.

Saturday, September 17th: UFC Fight Night 94 – Poirier Vs Johnson

Where: Texas, USA

The UFC heads to Texas in the middle of the month for UFC Fight Night 94, which will be headlined by the in-form Dustin Poirier, who will lock horns with Michael Johnson, who’s still ranked No.10 in the lightweight division despite two recent losses.

There’s more intriguing action in the co-main event, with Uriah Hall being paired up with Derek Brunson, while Evan Dunham also fights Abel Trujillo on the main card.

Friday, September 23rd: Invicta FC 19 – Maia Vs Modaferri

Where: Kansas City, USA

The center of attention at Invicta FC 19 will undoubtedly be the main event which sees Jennifer Maia on a mission to extend her four-fight winning streak at bantamweight against Roxanne Modafferi, who’s won her last two bouts in the promotion.

Saturday, September 24th: UFC Fight Night 95 – Cyborg Vs Lansberg

Where: Brasilia, Brazil

UFC Fight Night 95 in Brazil at the tail-end of the month sees the welcome return of one of the most dominant forces in woman’s MMA, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino, who will again fight at a catchweight of 140lbs, this time against newcomer Lina Lansberg.

Also look out for former bantamweight champion Renan Barao attempting to get his first win at featherweight against Phillipe Nover, while Roy Nelson will look to slug it out with Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.

Sunday, September 25th: Rizin FF 2

Where: Saitama, Japan

Rounding off the month we have the return of Japanese promotion Rizin FF, who will get their open weight Grand Prix underway at the Saitama Super Arena.

The exact line-up for the tournament is yet to be unveiled, but with the likes of Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic and Wanderlei Silva believed to be involved, this is certainly one that’s going to be worth paying attention to.
