Tomorrow night current champion Sarah Kaufman will defend her title against Roxanne Modaferri at Strikeforce Challengers 9 on Showtime.
Meanwhile. after being unsuccessful in her bid to defeat 145lb champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos last year, Dutch fighter Marloes Coenen is set to make the move back down to 135lbs where she will be installed as the divisions No.1 contender.
“Marloes has made the move down to welterweight and she will get the next title fight,” Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed in an official statement released today. “She has proven that she belongs in the cage with our champion.”
Coenen already holds a submission win over current title challenger Modaferri in the undercard of the Fedor Vs Rogers card last year, canceling out a prior decision loss to her back in 2007. She has never faced Kaufman though.
Strikeforce have also announced a four woman tournament to establish another future title contender. The competition will take place at the Strikeforce Challengers 10 event on August 13th and includes Miesha Tate (9-2), Carina Damm (15-3), Maiju Kajula (4-1) and Hitomi Akano (15-7).
