Welterweight fighter Martin Kampmann, who’s fresh of a win at last weekend’s UFC 139 event is set to face Thiago Alves next in an as yet unannounced UFC event which will take place in March, 2012.
This potentially explosive scrap between two of the division’s best strikers was one that we had ourselves predicted to be up next in our regular ‘What’s Next’ feature after watching Kampmann claim a decision win over Rick Story at the weekend.
Both fighters form has been somewhat up-and-down lately with Alves going 2-3 in his last five Octagon outings while Kampmann has recorded a 3-2 record over roughly the same period.
Nevertheless they remain two highly respected members of the 170lb ranks, and after both getting back to winning ways in the last month it makes sense to finally get them into the cage together.
