It seems that the normally reliable Showdown Joe has his wires crossed on Tito Ortiz next fight. As we reported earlier The TSN presenter had claimed that Ortiz was set to face Forrest Griffin at UFC 121 in October.

However MMAfighting.com have since confirmed with UFC president Dana White that the former multiple time light-heavyweight champion will in fact make his return to action against fellow wrestler Matt Hamill.

Personally I’m much happier with this news. I’d much rather see Ortiz fight somebody new rather than sit through a third fight with Griffin. I had previously noted Stephan Bonnar as my pick, but Hamill also fits the bill.

It also leaves Griffin free to be involved in a more relevant fight in the division, with  a bout with Rich Franklin later in the year now appearing to be a distinct possibility.
