Matt Hughes Not Looking To Fight More Often

In the build-up to his fight with Renzo Gracie at UFC 112 we noted that former welterweight champion Matt Hughes was currently only fighting approximately once a year.

After emerging victorious in the bout Hughes spoke to mmafighting’s Ariel Helwani and admitted that he isn’t in a hurry to get back into the octagon.

“You know what, I just had a kid on January 2nd, a little girl, and I’ve got a good family at home so no, once – twice a year is fine with me. I just want my kids to know who there dad is.”

At 36 years of age and with over 50 fights on his CV has certainly earned the right to do so.

At the same time his comments only add weight behind the school of thought that Hughes no longer has the hunger to compete that he possessed when he became a dominant champion at 170lbs.
