Matt Hughes Set To Escape Battery Charge After Bar Altercation

Last week it emerged that former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes was been investigated by police over an allegation that he had shoved a man he was arguing with at a bar in Illinois into a nearby woman, breaking her nose in the process.

The woman attempted to press charges, but TMZ are now reporting that the matter looks to be drawing to a close with Hughes emerging without a formal charge.

“TMZ spoke with the Illinois State’s Attorney … who told us there was not enough evidence to prove the fighter committed a battery when he allegedly shoved another man into a female bystander at the Trails End Bar and Grill in Taylor Springs, IL.”

With the matter now behind him Hughes will be able to concentrate on his next fight inside the Octagon at UFC 135 in September with Diego Sanchez.
