Earlier today Ricardo Almeida announced his retirement at the age of 34, but one of the last men to defeat him, Matt Hughes, isn’t quite ready to hang up his gloves despite being three years his elder.

Having said that, the former welterweight champion, who suffered a first round KO loss in his third fight with BJ Penn at the tail end of last year is coming to the realization that he doesn’t have long to go in the sport however.

“I’ll be honest, I’m 37 years old, my competitors are around 28 years old. It’s about time for Matt Hughes to find something else to do,” Hughes tells HDNet. “I don’t have a whole lot of fights left in me.”

Exactly how many is not certain, but Hughes has a rough idea.

“one, maybe two fights tops,” he replied.
