Matt Mitrione’s stand-up has improved greatly since his stint on TUF 10 and he demonstrated it again tonight with a dominating display against Tim Hague.

From the first bell Mitrione took command of the stand-up, landing some thudding inside leg kicks and then going to work with his hands.

A straight left to the jaw dropped Hague, who managed to get back to his feet only to be quickly dropped again with another powerful left from the 260lb former NFL player, followed up by some vicious ground and pound.

The referee had seen enough and called a halt to the contest with just 2.59mins gone in the first round.

Four fights, four wins now for Mitrione in his UFC career, and he looks to be a genuine player in the heavyweight division.  The most interesting part is that given the short amount of time he’s been in the sport he’s only going to develop and improve further in the future.
