We’ve not seen much of the always entertaining Matt Serra since his loss to Chris Lytle back in September of last year, but he did corner his latest protoge Chris Weidman at UFC 131 on Saturday night, and backstage Ariel Helwani took the opportunity to find out what he’s been up to.

As it turns out Serra has taken some time out to welcome a new baby into the world, and by his own admission he’s put on a few pounds…sheepishly admitting that he’s now 200lbs+.

With that in mind he’s not looking to rush back into the Octagon. Instead he’ll require around three months to get back into top shape and hope’s to fight sometime in late fall.

And when it comes to a potential opponent, Serra doesn’t name anyone in particular but says it’ll have to be “something that excites me.”

It’s good to hear that Serra hasn’t called it quits just yet as it is something he’s admitted in the past that he is edging closer to. With a recent record of just 1-3 in the UFC his next fight could be a make or break fight for the former champion.
