Lightweight contenders Cole Miller and Matt Wiman got the televised main card of UFC Fight For The Troops 2 event underway this evening in Texas.

As expected these two tenacious competitors started the fight at a quick pace and both men had their moments striking. Miller in particular appeared to hurt Wiman with a combination of punches early, but Wiman was also stringing together some solid shots. Towards the end of the round Miller attempted to pull guard but it didn’t work out to his advantage as it simply allowed Wiman to establish a firm base from top control and land some solid ground and pound.

Wiman took that momentum and pushed the pace effectively in the second round, landing the better of the strikes and then dazing Miller with a clipping shot to the temple that dropped him to the canvas. Wiman gladly followed him to the floor and picked up where he left off at the end of the first, staying active on top and landing more heavy shots. With Miller struggling to offer anything offensive from his back this was a clear round in the bank for his opponent.

The final round was all Wiman once again as he got the better of the striking and then dominated Miller when the fight hit the canvas for the final minutes of the contest.

Wiman wasn’t able to get the finish, but the final result was never in doubt, with the judges awarding him a unanimous decision victory (29-28, 30-27 x2).
