Melvin Manhoef Set To Take Cung Le’s Place in Strikeforce 185lb Tournament

Over the past few days it’s become clear that former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le is not keen to appear in the promotion’s upcoming 185lb tournament.

Fear not though as Scott Coker has revealed to mmajunkie.com that Melvin Manhoef has been offered his place instead.

Manhoef, like Le, is known as an exciting stand-up fighter, though he’s not had the best of luck recently.  He was memorably knocked out by Robbie Lawler in a Strikeforce bout earlier this year despite having been in complete control of the bout up until that moment.  Then in May he suffered a TKO loss in a kickboxing contest back in the Netherlands.

Manhoef’s busy fighting schedule continues next weekend at DREAM 15 when he takes on Tatsuya Mizuno as part of a four-man light-heavyweight tournament.

Here’s a list of the rumored participants for Strikeforce’s middleweight tournament which is believed to be in the works for later in the year.

  • Dan Henderson
  • Nick Diaz
  • ‘Jacare’ Souza
  • Robbie Lawler
  • Tim Kennedy
  • Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller
  • Melvin Manhoef
  • Kazuo Misaki / Jorge Santiago
