Strikeforce have today announced the latest addition to their roster – the dutch Muay Thai fighter, Melvin Manhoef.

Manhoef has fought professionally both as a kickboxer, where he is currently 37-8, and also in MMA where he posts a record of 23-6-1.

A few years ago the 33 year old held the Cage Rage light heavyweight belt, defending his title in a memorable back-and-forth clash with Evangalista ‘Cyborg’ Santos, and against former UFC fighter Ian Freeman.

In more recent times he has been fighting in DREAM, where wins over Mark Hunt and Kazushi Sakuraba have been tempered by losses to current Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi and Paulo Filho.

Though he is susceptible to submissions he is a powerful and exciting striker to watch and will certainly be a good addition to the growing Strikeforce roster. He has fought at several different weight classes during his career which may turn out to be a significant asset for the promotion.

There are plenty of options for Manhoef in the promotion as it stands. fights with other strikers like Cung Le and Robbie Lawler would make sense, as would Nick Diaz and Scott Smith. Rematches with Mousasi and Cyborg at light heavyweight would also appear to be good options.
