Two of the UFC middleweight division’s most outspoken fighters Michael Bisping and Chael Sonnen are currently eyeing a potential title shot.
Bisping takes on Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller in December at The Ultimate Fighter Season 13 finale, while Sonnen faces Brian Stann at UFC 136 in October and both have made it clear they want a shot at Anderson Silva if they emerge with a victory in those fights.
At the present time it appears that Sonnen is in pole position for the shot after he came close to defeating the champion last year, but earlier in the week in in interview on the MMA Hour show Bisping was less than impressed with that decision.
“I think it’s complete (expletive). Chael Sonnen, who just fought the champ, cheated and took steroids. I think I am next in line. Ideal scenario would be beat Miller, get a title shot, win the world title.”
Needless to say it wasn’t long before Sonnen caught wind of Bisping’s remarks and took to Twitter to return fire.
“Bisping, you make good points about deserving a title shot. After all you did beat, umm, well ahh…Hum and then there was.. Ah..Wait, what!?”
If both fighters do emerge victorious in their respective bouts then I like the idea of pitting them against each other to establish the next No.1 contender, but there’s far more interest in Sonnen getting a rematch with Silva at this moment in time so I think the UFC will press ahead with that instead at the earliest opportunity.
