It seems that extracurricular activities are all the rage with MMA fighters at the moment, whether it’s Rampage Jackson acting in movies, Forrest Griffin writing books, or Chael Sonnen running for legislature.
The latest fighter to do so is UFC middleweight fighter Michael Bisping who is set to take a part in popular UK soap ‘Hollyoaks.’
“I’m expecting to get a lot of grief from the Internet,” Bisping told Ariel Helwani earlier in the week on the MMAHour show. “It’s not a novel soap opera, it’s a daytime soap opera. I play a bit of a bad guy.”
Hollyoaks is a long-running and successful soap opera, aimed primarily at a teen audience. Though it’s considered one of the top 4 soaps in the UK it’s been struggling in the ratings recently which has forced a shake up with a number of new characters being introduced to revive it’s fortunes.
Bisping’s role as a gangster on the show is believed to be a guest part and won’t interfere with his fighting career. The TUF season 3 winner recently defeated Dan Miller at UFC 114 and it’s likely that he’ll next appear at a rumored UFC 120 UK card in October.
While no opponent has yet been named Bisping has made it known he’s keen to have a rematch with Wanderlei Silva who narrowly defeated him earlier in the year. The Brazilian has already welcomed the idea of a second fight, but there’s plenty of other fights at 185lbs for ‘The Count’ so the ball is in the UFC’s court.
